A Multi-Occupational Framework
The Guggenheim is a museum in which the experience of the space, via the ramp, physically distorts the body. Therefore, the notion of occupation in space plays a critical role in how the art and installations are perceived.
In the spirit of the aforementioned, this proposal posits an autonomous grid system directly in the middle of the void space. The system extends upwards, penetrating the glass dome and serves as a vertical tower; a visual landmark within a contextual landscape of verticality.
Secondary structures, in the form of stairs and platforms offer circulation throughout the grid system. These are easily moved and manipulated, affording infinite opportunities for circulation and various modes of occupation. Designation of programming is also deliberately left open, potentially creating the opportunity for a hybridization of occupational types such as parks in the sky or galleries nestled within the tower and left open and completely available for public viewing. In this sense, the manipulation of the void as a framework for infinite curatorial configurations might also bring about broader discussions of art and design.
