The facility’s three-wing design symbolizes the three primary components of the facility’s mission statement: “Encourage, Enrich and Strengthen.” The building was designed to create a welcoming feeling and yet evoke a youthful spirit, while creating a timeless sense of strength and solidity. Local artists were commissioned to add regional imagery throughout the facility with themes including: nature, water, and trains. The exterior also boasts the regional heritage through the use of traditional masonry construction and industrial metal panels signifying the rail systems that run throughout the Green Bay area.
The Community Center has been awarded a silver rating in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Some of the green initiatives that lead to the Kroc Center’s great achievement include: low-flow plumbing fixtures (yield a 33% water savings); landscaping designed to minimize maintenance and motorized lawn care; an energy efficient pool heating system; use of material extracted, harvested, and manufactured within a 500 mile radius of the project (41% of materials); high indoor environmental quality due to low VOC materials and efficient systematic controls like occupancy and daylight sensors.
