The RAY table is inspired by the manta ray, a rhomboid-shaped marine creature. Conceptually, the piece imitates the asymmetry found in nature, for if everything around us was symmetric, the world would not respond to the cannons of nature. RAY encounters beauty in asymmetry, and its form fully embodies this concept.
The simple lines of the table top conceal the complexity of what lies beneath. The tones and directionality of the wood mimic the impressions left by the tide on the sand. Underneath we will find a sliding metal storage basket covered in fishing net, in keeping with the asymmetrical line.
RAY was built by three local craftsman.Frank Buschmann handcrafted the tabletop in ash in his workshop in Madrid. Blacksmith´s Easo, on the outskirts of the capital, created the table legs and the sliding metal basket from white lacquered steel tubing. And the 100% cotton fishinng net was hand woven according to the age-old techniques of fishermen from San Sebastian, Guipuzcoa.
The table legs, inspired by the fins of the manta ray, act as trestles to give solidity to the ensemble, avoiding vibrations and visually lightening the anterior profile of the piece. RAY embodies our fascination with aqueous marine from which integrate beauty , precision, clones and efficiency.
