PROJECT DETAILS
Title of Project: RAW House
SUMMARY
A light filled sustainable family home of industrial elegance with exposed materials and low profile glazing
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Using extensions and opening out works, we formed elegant and light filled spaces enhanced by exposing and expressing construction materials that are usually hidden. Each material, found in its traditional location is dressed in white and enhanced with natural light to bring out it’s textures. Raw concrete, brick, timber, metal and light formed the underlying material pallet.
Connection and views through the house were achieved with long vistas from the entrance and front living room through to the garden framed by low profile glazing to create an industrial elegance. Although open plan, we employed changes to floor levels and materials, ceiling heights and framed structural openings to ensure that each space maintained a sense of containment and identity.
The thermal mass of the concrete floor with underfloor heating at the rear combined with high levels of insulation and triple glazed rooflight with a layer solar control glazing help maintain a cool space in the summer and warm in the winter.
