This Indian Restaurant situated in the Gulf Hotel, Bahrain, displays a richness and layering approach to the interior design.
This "layering effect" being very much part of India's dynamic and rich culture, heritage and traditions.
Reflective of this the designers took inspiration from the henna designs and Medni patterns, symbolic representation of the "outer and inner sun". Indian customs are centered on this philosophy of "awakening the inner light".
The collective awareness of the selection of materials and their uniqueness contribute to this layering effect.
On entering the restaurant the back lit onyx matre d stand creates a warm and welcoming glow.
Black granite flooring offset with inlayed white etched marble, warm parquet timber flooring and bronze mirror cladding provide a warmth which contrast next to a black stone wall. Indian arches and decorative niches showcase these henna designs and create a visual interest of texture and colour contrast.
Glass beaded curtains create a semi private and intimate dining experience for guests. Whilst bronze fret cut sliding doors lead the way to the Chef's table. A ten seater dark timber table off set a polished plaster wall with stenciled designs and lotus flower artworks. Coloured glass pendants hang above the table, all creating a visual vibrancy to the interiors. In much the same way the layering effect of the cuisine, spices create oral layers, flavors and aromas, the dishes present textural and colourful explosions of culinary awe.
Hints of turmeric and coriander seeds inspire fabric colours, a link back to India's spice trade.
All symbolic of a modern India that still respects and values her cultural traditions and heritage in a modern contemporary twist.
