Raritan Bay Medical Center partnered with a national developer to build a four story, 100,000 square foot medical office building on their Old Bridge campus with close adjacency to the existing main hospital.
The second floor of the free-standing building contains five Class C Operating Rooms for inpatient and same day surgery for the hospital. The building is a blend of (B) Business and (I-2) Institutional use and as such is the first DOH approval of its kind in New Jersey. A new skybridge connects the new surgery department to the patient room floors of the main hospital building. Renovation of the existing hospital corridor at the bridge access point was also required, along with DOH approval, to comply with width standards for the new patient transport path.
Two of the five ORs are designed for potential future hybrid adaptation, addressing size and structural requirements to accommodate robotic equipment and the necessary vibration criteria.
Registration, single private pre/op and Phase II recovery rooms, as well as staff lounges, locker rooms, and other necessary support spaces are included, as well as central sterile processing that serves the surgery suites and the entire hospital. The first floor contains a women’s health center as well as a new imaging center and preadmission testing which services both inpatient and outpatient services for the hospital.
NK designed four more Class C ORs for an Ambulatory Surgery Center on the third floor, a joint venture between the hospital and a private practice.
