‘Yunseul’
This site, located on Bukhangang-ro, a representative driving course in Namyangju, has a contemplative landscape facing the Bukhangang River. When I visited this place in the late morning, the first view I saw from the hall on the second floor of the already closed building was the dazzlingly beautiful ‘Yunseul’ of the Bukhan River. This building with a beautiful view of the Bukhangang River stood unattractively dressed for its unsuited purpose. For the renovation, it was first decided to improve the façade of the existing building. The first thing we did when proposing a new facade design was to remove the cumbersome existing façade that was blocking the view towards the Bukhangang River. The elevation on the Bukhangang River side was planned with full windows, so it has a different character from the elevation facing the road, creating a difference in the perspective looking at the river. The various volumes of the white squares on the road side catch the eye as if the Bukhangang River's Yunseul has extended to the land, and the dynamism and meticulousness of ceramics are assimilated with the pure white Yunseul.
‘Raonsoom’
The existing building was reborn as ‘Raonsoom’. ‘Raon’ means ‘enjoyable’ in pure Korean, and ‘soom’ means ‘breathe’. ‘Raonsoom’ was designed to provide a space where you can relax and breathe happily with Yunseul.
When you enjoy coffee while lying on a beanbag at Raonsoom, you may feel as if you are floating on the river due to the panoramic river view seen through all the windows. Looking beyond the glass window at the pure white clouds in the blue sky and the sparkling ripples of the Bukhangang River in the blue river water, it is naturally healing. I hope that Cafe ‘Raonsoom’ will be a place where you can find peace of mind while chatting with the open scenery in the background.
