The planned site is located at the eastern end of Rankoshi Town, adjacent to Niseko Town, and is a verdant place where you can see Mt. Yotei and Mt. Shiribetsu to the east, Mt. Konbu to the south, and Annupuri to the west. This residence was designed for a client relocating from the Kanto region who loves winter sports and plants. The 1st floor is a garage and ski room, the 2nd floor is a floor for guests, and the 3rd floor is a residence consisting of an LDK, a bedroom, and a bathroom.
Eaves and decks are extended on three sides of the building except the north side to control sunlight and provide a warm environment in winter and cool in summer. A solarium is set up from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor atrium in the center of the building, and the plants add moisture to the house along with the outdoor scenery. Gravity ventilation from the staircase to the penthouse also creates a comfortable environment.
For the structure, only the main frame is made of steel in order to suppress the heat loss peculiar to steel-frame construction, and the roof and walls are made of wood. For the interior and exterior, we used Donan cedar and cement-based materials with a rustic expression, with the intention of blending in with the environment while shining in the landscape.
