Held every five years, the event's cyclical existence called for a temporary building which may be easily disassembled and relocated to another site. The pavilion exists of different parts, housing different functions, all singular cells but the strongest in coexistence with its neighboring parts. The main concept is that during the 5 years no documenta is held, each cell can be assabled in a different german city and serve as an info booth to the next documenta. At the beginning of the next documenta, the parts get transported back and get reconnected on site.-the pavilion as a bench:Some functions stated in the brief, like concert hall, lecture hall, reading and chill out areas ask for sloping surfaces to sit and walk. the sedentary landscape is comprised of a truss system placed at 30 degree angles, turning wall and roof panels into an ideal location for staircases and surfaces for sitting. -the pavilion as a meeting point:The competition brief stated that the pailon should stay in the back seat and not taking any attention away from away from the documnta itself. On the other hand it should be a unique articulation and interpretation of documenta's atmosphere.Randerscheinung uses documenta's heartline as a metaphorical image describing its historical, political and artistic alteration over time. Keeping the pavilion to the sidelines of the site inbetween Kassel and the documenta plot, the pavilion extends horizontally and so relates to the surrounding cityscape. Stretching in the horizontal planecreates an atmosphere of togetherness with open access for all.
