Thanks to the generous support of many people through the recent and ongoing Building Homes With Heart capital campaign, the New Residential Community Master Plan for Rainbow Acres, continues to be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility. Rainbow Acres is a ranch-style community for seniors and older adults with developmental disabilities. Residents are called “Ranchers” to convey their special individual worth and need for love and dignity. From the very beginning, Rainbow Acres has been a special place. At Rainbow Acres, job skills, social standards, and self-help methods are taught through the love and concern of Christian people. The primary emphasis of the Rainbow Acres total-life concept is to foster a sense of self-worth in each Rancher through positive qualities of family-style living in a loving and accepting community.
The new Master Plan is designed to offer a strong sense of community and reflects the belief that “people care for people”. All of the new residential homes have been built, and construction of new apartments for more independent Ranchers is ongoing. Each living space offers Ranchers their own private bedroom, and a furnished communal area, while each home supports a ten to twelve person family. Twelve homes are grouped around cul-de-sacs to form small neighborhoods, such that every neighborhood is grouped around and connected to a central commons area, which is anchored by a 12,500 Community Center.
Construction on the new Community Center was recently completed, and provides a multi-purpose assembly and congregate dining room, rehearsal and performance space for the Rancher Choir, a fitness center, and indoor basketball court. Along with the new construction projects, Rainbow continues to renovate and improve its other mixed-use facilities and grounds—like the multi-purpose Learning Center, Gift Shop, Greenhouse and Memory Walking Trail—all nestled in the beautiful desert landscape of Arizona's Verde Valley.
