Project Description
R2 cafe is a unique gastronomical experience initiated by Hotel Ramashraya, Dewas city, Madhya Pradesh, India. The parent Hotel Ramashraya- a design by RKGA, is already an applauded and a well-received venue in the city. The addition in the legacy- the cafe serves as a hub for students as well as a cafeteria for the local community. Situated at one of the prime roads of the city, the cafe serves as well as counter the chaotic environment posed by the surroundings.
The owner of the cafe wanted to give a city a place where the youth, as well as families, are able to have a memorable culinary experience. We believe that the other bodily senses should complement the sense of taste. And that inspired the design of the cafe.
Hints of primary colours grab one’s sight as soon as one enters the space that is carefully structured. The truss- an intricate contemporary element reduces the boredom of the blank ceiling while hiding electrical lines which otherwise requires false-ceiling. The ceiling and the colour scheme of it prepare the ground for wood-finished mild steel furniture that is minimalist yet comfortable and youthful. Non-belief in the walls of the design allows the eyes an unrestricted sight. This manifests into a spacious view and boundless experience to a vagabond youth. The simplicity of the environment with a chic usage of primary colours is couture to Dewas denizens. Tailored spaces are created for a variety of experiences from intimate to extrovert.
Is lighting design is the magician of interiors? Yes, it indeed is. Good lighting design is the cynosure of any brilliant design, but its significance increases two-fold when designing specifically for eateries. The lighting design for such spaces is much more nuanced than the general lighting of any commercial or residential interiors. It creates an unconsciously positive mood and stimulates the appetite for the customers. The design kept the light bright and breezy in order to promote a congenial vibe throughout the space. Accent lighting was used to highlight the display of food. Decorative lighting such as rope bulbs added beauty to the surface interior design and to bring the rusticity. The combination of natural light with café interior design enhanced the overall look of the environment. It reinforced a well-ventilated, atmospheric outlook as well as made the interior seem refreshing and spacious. Splendidly highlighted colours bring mysticism in the interiors and contrast to the exterior harsh climate of southern MP.
The design also offers an open informal seating area covered with a tensile roof. The natural view around brings humility. Care was taken so that space might not end up looking either too funky or too drab. This makes the cafe enticing, especially in the evening.
