Introduction
The new Quintans Pharmacy project in Lourinhã, Portugal, was an intervention made on a existing building with poor quality of construction, presenting several structural and conservation problems. Existing beams and pilars were in high number, with different shapes and dimensions and the existing facade had already been adulterated.
Therefore, our intervention focused on the standardization of the overall area ensuring at the same time the new functional program.
Ground Floor (Public Area)
On the ground floor we find the main pharmacy areas, General Costumer Area; Costumer Office; WC and Drugs/Medicine Storage area. The staircase linking to the first floor, was relocated by the new layout allowing additional natural light in the overall area.
The store has two different entrances, one public entrance and one staff/service entrance.
First Floor (Service Area)
On the first floor we find a more private area giving support the general Pharmacy services; two multifunctional offices (with the possibility of joining in one room only); Administration Office; Laboratory; Staff Area; Storage and WC.
Second Floor (Technical Area)
On the second floor, part of an outdoor pateo was transformed in a infra-structure ventilated area. The access to this area, for maintenance purposes only, is made by a hatch on the ceiling of the storage area on the first floor.
Facade
Small existing walls were demolished on the “window shopping” area, bringing the translucent glass plan to the ground. The upper area of the “window shopping” was also lowered to meet new interior ceiling heights. On the first floor, the original facade design was re-implemented, (folowing the existing second and third floors) allowing an overall standardization to the building facade design.
