This week, our project
has won first prize in the open national architecture competition for the
design of the Head office of the Quebec Order Association (OAQ).
In a time of
change in our society, the design of the spaces of the OAQ is an opportunity to
express in space values of openess, sustainable design and a quest for meaning
and the rich history of a professionnal community to which we belong.
From street to
street, the OAQ spaces will open to the city and to natural light.
On one end,
northen light will set the stage for the hall and, on the other, the work area
wil bathe in southern light. They will be united by a circulation ring
surrounding a ‘’lightbox’’.
To the rythm
of daily activities and moments, the Lightbox will reflect light and life in
day time and, in the evening in will be a light source. Natural light will find
its way through the presidents office, an exemple of clarit, transparency and
openess.
The two concrete
passage way will be marked by a typographic carpet undelining the key
principles and law of the OAQ, a governmental entity in charge of protecting
the public as well as promote the practice of architecture. Both will extend
form street to street. The main one will be an informal project gallery and the
other will bare the working library in an open manner.
The inner core
of the Light box will host a Maple wood conference room as a precious material
bearingthe identity of the Quebec nation.
Through a
perennial space, the OAQ head office will be a place for and about transparency
and light. In space and in purpose.
A luminous
space promoting towards the citizens, and for the citizens, our field of
practice, its members, our commitments and our projects.
A place
honoring the men and women who are shaping the built landscape of the nation of
Quebec.
