Completed in 2025, QUARRY HOUSE is a 360 m² private residence in the Kyiv region, created through the full reconstruction of a two-story house with a habitable attic. Designed under NUTRO Studio's LIGHT CAVE concept, the project extends the studio's "Inhabited Cave" philosophy into a family home inspired by the layered structure of a stone quarry.
Wood, warm grey stone, and dark Marazzi Frappuccino porcelain stoneware form a continuous material language throughout the interior. Veneer panels deliberately stop short of the ceiling, leaving illuminated shadow gaps that reveal each surface as a distinct geological layer, while black joints between materials reinforce the quarry-inspired concept.
The ground floor brings together the home's shared spaces, including a wood-clad entrance, sculptural staircase, concealed oak kitchen anchored by a monolithic stone island, and a living room centered around a fireplace and curated collection of contemporary artworks. Upstairs, the private level includes a gallery-like corridor, a study, children's room, master suite with a spa-inspired bathroom and boutique-style walk-in wardrobe. A sculptural spiral staircase leads to the attic, conceived as a secluded retreat for meditation, exercise, and music, with a dedicated sound studio tucked beneath the roof.
"We deliberately made the path to the house's most private level a physically private one: you reach the meditation zone only through your own walk-in closet, bypassing the shared space entirely," explain NUTRO Studio's architects.
