The Quail Lake Elementary school features a classroom environment that continually informs and engages the children. In effect, the physical environment itself becomes “another teacher.” Since its opening it has seen incredible success in motivating children, enhancing the learning experience and has truly become an extra teacher.
This approach nurtures the child’s intellectual growth and creativity through the deliberate utilization of the physical classroom as an essential element in the process of learning.
The never ending curiosity and propensity for learning is satisfied and greater understanding of a building systems is evidenced by drawings produced by the children.
Rather than conceal the building’s structure and infrastructure, the architecture displays features normally concealed to help inform the children of these functions. The architectural approach was a conscious and deliberate utilization of the environment as an essential element in the process of learning.
