QNA Village
- Renovating a 30 year old housing -
Our first nest was created by renovating a 30-year-old housing in Yeonam-dong.
The spatial concept of QNA ARCHITECTURE LAB, ‘Ilgongji,’ signifies an empty paper. Only black and white were used, and pure white faces symbolise the background that members need to fill out in the future. The intention was to show that there was no formative will in space where history of QNA ARCHITECTURE began, and white surface highlights the shadow of trees and birds created on sunny day. Decorations are eliminated as much as possible, and organised interior space with segmented shapes and BOX in BOX concept based on MASS of 30-year-old existing architectures. We considered that the space will appear as intended with the course of time when identity and colour become clear by filling in with works of QNA Architecture. It was the process of creating background that forms harmony with space even when decorated with any type of design elements, and expected space that becomes more luxuriant with time.
It was used as the filming site of a head office of Lovely Cosmetics in ‘JTBC drama ‘Mr.Wook’s story’, and the 1st floor is currently being used by artists of ‘Page Turner+Liner note(music café).’ Even after a year has passed, it is still not time to insist on identity but we expect full activity of QNA ARCHITECTURE LAB who is progressing gradually.
