Rock City is a 143,000 square meter, four-level retail and hotel development in Licun, a central district outside of Qingdao’s historic city center. Qingdao’s regionally famous Laoshan Mountain along the nearby coast, with its beautiful rock formations and scenic trails, formed the project’s design inspiration and name. Melded with the residents of Licun’s inherent love of walking its city, Rock City’s primary planning and movement expanded and integrated the city’s pedestrian network to facilitate a natural connectivitybetween the city outside and the project within. Leisurely ramps, Rock City’s signature experience, weave upwards through its spaces, like the walks of Laoshan, effectively linking all levels of the project to the appreciative benefit of both visitors and its tenants. Rock City’s phase one recently opened in January 2013, with a water inspired outdoor grotto district scheduled for opening in the spring.
