Qatar plans to build an underwater broadcast studio for TV coverage during the Fifa World Cup in 2022, said a report citing a designer working on potential plans for the project.
Reef Worlds, a US-based company that focuses on building 'sustainable underwater tourism sites' would be carving the studio out of rock for around $30 million, reported the Arabian Business.
“The project we are in the process of designing as an underwater broadcast centre [and] is quite a real possibility,” said Patric Douglas, CEO of Reef Worlds.
Douglas said Qatar’s World Cup authorities “like the design” and “they like the notion of doing the World Cup underwater with sharks swimming around.”
