The strategic location of the project in one of the best areas in
Qatar, that enjoys
an magnificent view to the Cornish and is visible to the population crossing the road, creates the
need for an outstanding design that has the potentials to function as a new
landmark in Qatar. Therefore in order to satisfy the Client need for a unique
multifunction design, the designer focused on developing a concept that enjoys
the optimum combination of uniqueness of design, functionality and feasibility
when it comes to actual execution.
The main idea was inspired by the letter “Q”- the first initial in
“Qatar”. The Designer developed a twin-tower with the possibility of connecting
them twice:
• In the ground area, to enable
benefiting from a shared commercial area.• On the roof top to create a public
service area to include high-end restaurants, cafes and clubs/ bar.
The Designer had combined the
möbius turn with the “Q” shape to create an original form. An interesting area
in this design is the podium in the ground level, which resembles a ship.
Another interesting characteristic of this form is that if a line is drawn
starting from the seam down the middle will meet back at the seam but at the
“other side”. If continued the line will meet the starting point and will be
double the length of the original strip. This single continuous curve
demonstrates that the möbius strip has only one boundary. This property can be
used to create interesting lighting on the exterior surface of the building.
The combination of the letter “Q” and the möbius turn into a
twin-tower creates a unique form that would be the first to be executed and
thus will make an impact and turn into a
landmark, while emphasizing the Qatar local identity through it’s “Q” shape.
