The vision of our project is to combine Kaunas Castle, the Old Town and Santaka Park into a harmonious urban fabric. “Pulsas” is an invitation to create a living, modern and open city, where history merges with modern urban life.
The architectural idea is inspired by the city’s history
The project draws on the city’s history and natural elements – the terrain echoes the historic flooding of the Neris and the Nemunas, while the rolling hills create a transition between the urbanised and natural environment.
Openness and functionality
The administrative building becomes not only a municipal space, but also an open space for the citizens, with commercial premises, an amphitheatre, a tourist information centre and exhibition spaces. The composition of the three volumes, with the glass interconnections of the lobbies, makes it light and transparent and invites people to come in.
Sustainability and contextuality
The building’s architecture and materiality are sensitively integrated into the skyline of Kaunas Old Town – the combination of red brickwork and modern white façade reflects the historical and contemporary face of the city. Sustainable solutions – energy saving, green space and the use of recyclable materials – ensure sustainable development.
