The Pueblo West Library, originally a 5,000 sf building, completed in 1999, is now a 28,000 sf library. The renovation and addition includes a large community room, gallery, children’s area, teen space, quiet reading room, study nooks, adult collection and 30 computer stations.
The library is located 14 miles west of Pueblo, Colorado. A public park sits to the north of the site and municipal services to the east. The library offers views of rolling plains and distant mountain ranges to the west.
The connection between the old and new building features a covered pedestrian walkway and entry into the building. The new addition features three “light monitors” standing proudly above a simple masonry platform. These light monitors capture daylight and illuminate the interior space.
The Pueblo West Library features a high efficiency mechanical system with raised floor air distribution. This system allows for future flexibility in the library’s mechanical, electrical, and data needs.
The Pueblo West Branch Library is a LEED Silver certified building and a sustainable role model for the community.
