We have prepared design proposals for the Akmena River area, which will soon become a vibrant and modern recreational space - open to both Kretinga residents and visitors.
One of the most impressive highlights of the project is the new 3.4 km long pedestrian path that will connect the city centre with the Kretinga Museum. As much as 2.4 km of the trail will stretch over the water, built on stilts, providing a unique opportunity to admire the landscape of the river from a different perspective. The height of the rest areas and the path have been carefully designed to make it comfortable for everyone, from families with babies in pushchairs to people with reduced mobility.
The main objective in creating this public space is to preserve the natural beauty of the Akmena riverbanks, while subtly opening them up to visitors. In addition, we have taken into account the risk of flooding by placing the main path and the recreation areas at a higher level so that they remain safe even if the river water rises.
This project is not only part of the regeneration of Kretinga, but also a new opportunity for active recreation in the midst of nature.
