Public Library Sin-Martens-Latem
The new library is designed in an ensemble of volumes in relation to its context.
A new volume is positioned parallel to the existing school volume.
Due to this subtle twist according to the street, the library is prominent visible from the outside.
The old building is left as an 'objet trouvé' within the ensemble and houses a archive center.
A courtyard is created between the 3 volumes as an intimate reading garden.
This space always maintains the connection with the surrounding outdoor spaces, around and between the volumes. At ground level, there is a transparent curtain wall that emphasize visual relationship between the volumes. The curtain wall works as a face towards the neighborhood.
