The project explores the concept of a public library in a contemporary context dominated by shopping, distraction and individual exploration. Situated on the main Arena boulevard leading to the stadium the building offers a unique opportunity to mix entertainment and cultural activities. The library natural unfolds from the open space and splits up in two distinctive routes which allow to explore the building differently.An external ramp spiral its way along the building and permits the visitor to enter the library at different locations and levels, thus blurring the limits between inside and outside and activating numerous occupations through the building. Roof lights and windows allow the visitor to peak inside the library without entering it and redefines the boundaries of public and private spaces. The continuity of the external ramp makes sure that green spaces flow through the whole building.The internal ramp runs parallel to the exterior one and gives a continuity between all the functions of the building. In this way, the limits of each space can be constantly redefined according to changing demands. At different moments, the flaneur can alter its promenade by smoothly accessing the external ramp, thus making the whole experience of the library a pleasurable and surprising exploration for knowledge and culture.A system of arcs concentrates and expand at the main cores of the building. the building is build upon a system of vierendeel beams made out of arcs. In this way, the intermediate level becomes a column-free space and emphasizes the feeling of freedom inside the building. At the ground floor, stylized and organic columns give a unique identity and set up the scenery for the wonderful library.
