The building is a single structure (piece) suspended above the planned green cradle park. The project boasts an exceptional physical and an equally important institutional image for the Public Health Main Office Building, at the same time the interior achieves the effect of a single, spacious yet contained unit which transmits the concept of grandeur for the modern working space. The unit has been adapted to the geometry of the land on which it has been built, it rises from ground level starting from the highest point within the lot and increases in height as one approaches the main street. The unit encloses a large, twelve meter high patio which both illuminates and forms the nucleus of the entire building. The structure expands from this point; taking advantage of the slope of the natural terrain without ensnaring the park which is located on the higher ground. The roof is in this case the fifth facade. Likewise, both roof and walls cover the building as a single entity, protecting it with a double facade which acts as a regulator for solar energy and as a thermic dissipator. Access is via the corner of the building, taking advantage of the change of levels at this point. From the entrance, one gains access directly to the balcony which overlooks the internal patio, from which point one can view the whole building. The facade of the building which fronts main street, Calle Jesus, is made of glass sheeting protected from the sun´s rays by hot-deep galvanized electrofused steel grating located seventy centimeters from the building´s surface. Between the mesh and the glass there are small passageways available, allowing for easier maintenance of the glass walling. The building has been conceived as a highly versatile open plan space with recessed windows which allow natural light into each work station. The positions of both the vertical communication and lavatory have been specifically determined. The remaining space is partitioned in interchangeable office modules, whose services are supplied via an installation network hidden in the false ceiling which allows flexibility in the layout of the workstations. The general building installations are channeled through an installations platform held above the second floor, protected by the galvanized mesh. This area offers easy access for maintenance purposes and freedom for the roof space.
