The new Estadio Azul is the partial result of an extensive urban revitalization program in Mexico City.
The Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City is presented as the ideal location to create a project able to attract major public sports events and other recreational activities. But this time on a larger scale.
Since the imminent Cruz Azul Fútbol Club relocation, many ideas came around, some of them finally result in the possible creation of a brand new football soccer stadium in 2018, with all the challenges that come with a project of this magnitude.
One of the problems to solve is the fact that stadiums in Mexico have always been created with only one purpose, so they are used only once or twice a month. Many of these stadiums are surrounded by big parking lots. This creates a physical border between the stadium and the city where it is placed, isolating it from the surrounding social life.
The New Estadio Azul would be able to interconnect many areas with low participation in social and economic activities, and make them grow. The stadium would act as the core of the entire complex, with spaces for social recreation, replacing the classics big parking lots. This changes the typical stadium structure in Mexico.
This stadium combines fresh look, functionality and structure in one clever design. Also using concrete and multi-perforated steel for reducing the construction cost and maintenance at minimum.
The design also will fit the geometric architecture style in the area known as the Magdalena Mixhuca.
The stadium’s shape would invite visitors to come in and interact, with a wonderful open view of the main central area. In the outside, the monumental appearance of the stadium's back would amaze visitors and sports teams.
In addition to be the new Cruz Azul Fútbol Club's home, it would also be Mexican Feminine Football Soccer League's home. The stadium would also be able to handle other major sports events, concerts, cultural events and more.
With a full capacity of 50,000 visitors and an innovative look, the new Cruz Azul Stadium would be an amazing addition to Mexico City's Skyline and become an icon not just in Mexico but worldwide.
