PROMENADE WITH AMPHITHEATER AND ART OBJECT
- Part of 1st stage of Yenisei embankment improvement
The right-bank embankment of the Yenisei River, being implemented as a complex public and recreational space, was designed by a consortium of five architectural studios. The territory was divided by the authors into several thematic and environmental zones, which were developed by different studios.
For the first stage, our team worked on the project of the promenade section with the amphitheater and the art object.
Responding to the spatial axis of the riverfront and following the parameters of the existing capital structure, we created an amphitheater in the protruding part of the embankment, where the retaining wall was dismantled. The amphitheater unites two levels of the embankment, and in its compositional center on the upper level there is an accent element—an art object. The location is a visual crossing, observable from numerous points in the surrounding space, including the bridge; it is a zone of social activity among citizens and the intersections of main pedestrian flows.
In an effort to preserve the most valuable elements of the existing structure of the embankment, we tried to emphasize its rhythmic basis, enhancing the spatial rhythm with vertical wooden structures (called "Lotus") based on our ADM structural and construction technology, while zoning the esplanade into two streams — a promenade from the side of the coastline and a bike and roller path from the side of the slope.
Double-sided benches of "lotuses" face both sides of the pathway, allowing visitors with different preferences, based on different interests and activities, to be grouped together while maintaining socially mediated communication and revealing the panorama of the Yenisei river's Abakan channel.
Linearly arranged groups of canopies at the end of the green axis go out onto an open area. At this point, the environment of the embankment, from the more formal and regular components in the amphitheater area through the promenade, gradually passes into another zone of more active pastime.
