The project sought to define a sustainable symbiosis between a territory shaped by agriculture, and the necessity for the city of Hangzhou to develop housing, offices and infrastructures for 200.000 inhabitants. We chose to deal with both aspects, maintaining a strong agricultural identity while answering the needs of the urban program. Whether by a system of enclosure, built stripes, or by densifiying the existing axis, our point was to establish a clear and sustainable tension between green and built tissues.Rather than a brand “new city”, we sketched here various new “pieces of city”, each relying on what was already existing.
