BarberMcMurry was commissioned to design a three bedroom modern suburban residence for a professional couple and their dogs. This design draws upon principles of the modernist movement while providing a material palette appropriate for its East Tennessee setting. Cast in place concrete, hardwood siding, and stacked stone comprise the majority of the exterior veneer. The plan is organized in a slight “U” shape while the home is oriented to maximize views from the living, dining, and master suite. The majority of the glass facades for the house face the private backyard while the approach / entry is expressed as a more solid composition with strategic slices removed to offer glimpses of the home’s interior and yard beyond.
