A private residence for an artist and his wife and family on a fairly narrow, double-depth residential lot. The program requirements demanded the greatest amount of space possible for the painting studio while still allowing for garage space and a three bedroom house.Non-parallel property lines on each side of the property drove the solution to two skewed forms that draw on a more traditional, gabled architectural vocabulary; one form for living, the other for garage and studio functions. Children's bedrooms were captured under the 12/12 sloped roof line concealing the true two-story nature of the living volume while the studio volume was placed at the rear of the garage volume, taking advantage of the slope of the site. The interior is finished in white maple flooring and white walls providing a backdrop for modern furniture selections and selected pieces by the artist.
