Harmony between cultures and materials
Ahmedabad, the pulsing metropolis in the Indian Federal State Gujarat, is home to a new exceptional building: The architectural office blocher partners created a private residence for an entrepreneur family. Throughout the whole 1,800 square meter mansion, Indian teachings and Western architecture is intertwined.
Seen from above, the two structures form an L-shape: Natural stone and modern exposed concrete form a new, vibrant construction. This rough design language is broken apart and formed anew by large windows. With wood elements, a warm and welcoming atmosphere can be created.
Being open and closed
The property manages to combine two apparently incompatible characteristics:
Openness and closeness. While being open to the wonders of the garden, the building is protected from outside’s heat. Due to the façade with several layers the mansion can breathe, thus the inside can be cooled down. However, sliding glass doors to the patios give the impression of openness and enable an easy transition from inside to outside.
Innovative living with Indian philosophy
Vaastu Shastra, “The science of living” was incorporated into the architect’s work and gives the inhabitants the possibility of orientation and comfort, although being in a villa of considerable size.
A balance of positive energy, stability and comfort is radiated throughout the building. It shows that old Indian philosophy can be implemented into the life of nowadays.
