An existing home on an acre plus covered with majestic Live Oaks but bare understory, required creating a garden renovation. The lakefront site is located in an upscale subdivision of Coral Gables, Florida. Landscape architect designed a plan which met the Owners design program and created a distinctive tropical environment which respects the existing site elements.
Preservation of all existing mature Live Oaks was a priority for the landscape architect. Salvaging all existing pavers and incorporate them into the new driveway layout contributed to the reduction of waste material. Incorporating a group of stone blocks within the property to build steps to the rear yard grotto was environmentally sensible. Retaining walls to control run off were necessary and were built using native stone blocks, this allowed landscape architect to build them without concrete footings or reinforcing steel.
