A 3 bedroom, 3 car garage, with 3-1/2 bath, family room, living room, dining room, breakfast area, double island galley kitchen by Bulthaup, the house features sustainable design concepts, including Photovoltaic, and geothermal systems and take advantage of views. The design needed to be a light-filled open-plan design, suitable for art display.
The curved roofs were an important requirement of the design from the beginning, and were designed to provide a vertical "lift" to the interior spaces and expand in the direction of the views and daylight. The concept of curves is incorporated into the plan of the home at the concave entrance wall that serves as an embracing welcome and art gallery wall. The materials palette was limited to concrete, glass and metal.
Specific owner requirements such as a full glass shower at the corner of a fully glazed wall, makes for a one of a kind bathing experience, and a truly unique home. The home features two fireplaces; one of which is finished in silver leaf. One of the main focal points of the home is the glass stair case with glass railings and walls.
The home sits on a 25.5-acre parcel that is partially wooded and partially open fields. There is a large pond on the property. The site is on a hillside and has a Southern exposure with beautiful views. The property contains an existing house that the owners once occupied. The roof of the existing home provided an excellent orientation and ample surface area and ultimately became a power generation source via the installation of a 16.8 KW photovoltaic system.
Exterior amenities include back lit glass walls at the entry court, and on-grade patios at the master suite, breakfast room, and family room. A large elevated patio on the second floor at the living room with access from the kitchen provides space for entertaining and elevated views of the countryside.
The building envelope is highly insulated with medium density spray polyurethane foam. The glass wall frames are thermally broken, and the glazing is 1" insulated Solarban 60.
