The ensemble of dwelling houses in Kaunas, built on the Raudondvaris highway, is characterized by a dynamic and responsive urban composition in Kaunas, Piešvės street. The irregular shape of the plot and the layout of the administrative and residential buildings has become a difficult task. Nonetheless, a rational and space-saving solution has been applied, dividing objects into separate structural groups.

The street noise is covered by a series of sound-absorbing trees, and along with it, a rectangular multifunctional volume was designed. Together with the adjacent parking, such a solution forms a curtain and creates a more remote and private space in the plot. There are three double-apartment houses facing the oblique highway. They are, buildings of similar purpose, but with different orientation and planned structure. The volumes of neat structure work together with the outdoor spaces that form the yards. It features wooden terraces and tree greenery.

The duplex dwelling houses have a laconic layout. The entrance to the building is through the central entrance. There is a kitchen with a dining area at one end and a spacious living room with a terrace at the other. The center has a sanitary unit and a wardrobe, and when we get up the staircase to the top, the first floor welcomes us. Here, the bedroom block meets the joints belonging to them. In the overall composition, both volumes are pushed to create privacy on terraces.

The layouts of the third group house are based on transitional spaces. Because the volumes are square-shaped, the entrance is formed in the corner of the building. Passing the closet we get into the common space, and from there it straight into the bedroom and sanitary unit. To get to the second apartment one needs to approach from another corner of the house, which, when rising straight on the first floor, is analogous.

Objects are characterized by a neat and clear division of facades, shaping windows that are oriented towards nature. Fasade has a mixed material palette applied to them. Concrete, wood paneling and rusted metal plates are the basic materials for creating the ensemble’s identity.

The group of residential houses is characterized by a context-sensitive urban orientation and cozy recreational well-being spaces. Here, attention is paid not only to the volumes but to the spaces between them as well.
