Project Requirements:
A one bedroom house with a sense of security and a
high level of acoustic isolation. The Owner requested
we use non chemical or low VOC materials.
Description of Project Solution:
The design is conceived as “walls within walls”. A thick
super insulated outer wall creates a simpledatum within which
a more complex geometry of interior walls of wood and plaster move.
Large skylights wash critical wall surfaces and reflect
natural light into the space. Roughexterior material of brick, Cor 10 and
white cedar will weather with age.
Interior materials, bluestone, white cedar, cork, linoleum and carpet
are left in there natural state or coated with non chemical finishes. The
design combines a sense of security with a high mass thermal mass
energy concept. The native grass roof for example reduces sound
transmission and improves the building’s insulation values. The abstract
form of the building creates a pure distinction between the natural and
man made, allowing the visitor to appreciate the site.
