Prism
Under Covid, we panicked, became firmer, missed the past, and we feared....
In the post-pandemic era, we cherish every reunion and look forward to the next one ahead. When we met in a hurry, we could not even distinguish the expression behind the mask. We just passed by in a hurry...
Under this circumstance, we designed a space for unexpected encounter.
We designed this installation to create more possibilities and encounters. There is no specific entrance to the space, and people enter into the space through different directions along the narrow valleys. When the destiny meets unexpectedly, they may look at each other, be silent, nod their heads, smile back, or talk effusively...
Invited by Stellar and the 2021 Beijing Urban Architecture Biennale, MARS presented an interactive art installation, Prisms, in the atrium of The New in Xidan, Beijing.
The outer wall of the exhibition is matte copper aluminum, which creates curiosity and attraction for people to explore further. The inner wall of the exhibition area is specular stainless-steel metal, which creates multiple reflections to attract people to stay.
The multi-dimensional mirror stainless metal in the interior of the space magnifies the interaction between the intimacy of people: you will stare at yourself in the mirror, you will peek at the passers-by behind you, you will meet another eye in the mirror refraction. Maybe there will be more surprises...
This interactive art installation is also a exhibition space for artists and designers. It showcases the artist's illustration, furniture design, art collection, jewelry design, porcelain design and more.
We created a triangular pyramid display space for the displays. The light shone through the back of the acrylic booth gently highlights the delicacy and creativity of the exhibits.
We called this multi-dimensional space installation "Prism", hoping to reflect more colors in our space against the bleak background of the pandemic.
MARS was commissioned by the Beijing Urban Architecture Biennale to design exhibition Spaces for eight artists. Different from the traditional "Wall of heaven and Earth" exhibition space, we not only rationally planned the exhibits of 8 artists, but also the exhibition space itself is an interactive art installation, hoping to increase the communication between people in the context of the epidemic through this multi-dimensional mirror space. The works of the eight artists include sculptures, ceramics, paintings and other different types of works. They are exquisitely arranged in the light box of the mirror space, which is set off and highlighted by soft lighting.
The installation is located at the most important position in the atrium of The New, a commercial space in Xidan, Beijing. On the opening day, it attracted a large number of people to visit, communicate and punch in. It is worth mentioning that the materials of this design are from the surplus materials of aluminum-plastic panels supplied by Alukbang Company for Daxing Airport, which are recycled and utilized by us, which also reflects the ecological and green environmental protection concept of this biennial. After the exhibition of this Beijing Urban Architecture Biennale, our installation will be recycled again, continue to reuse, extend our concept of environmental protection, and soon our installation will come to life again in other places.
