An unbuilt proposal by our all-LGBTQ development and design team to NYS Empire Development to redevelop the historic Bayview Women’s Prison on Manhattan’s West Side Highway in Chelsea as a 100% affordable, intergenerational LGBTQIA+ affirming housing community for seniors and displaced/unhoused young adults with an LGBTQIA community and performing arts center. The proposal includes housing for 92 senior adult singles
and couples, 32 formerly homeless LGBTQIA+ young adults referred to the Ali Forney Center through New York City, a 6,808 square foot space dedicated to the New York State Department of Mental Health Temporary Shelter Program, and a pair of community facilities dedicated to the integrated physical and mental wellbeing of the neighborhood and city’s LGBTQIA+ intergenerational community, and the city’s first queer performing arts center.
