This book is a collection of conversations that explores the nature and history of a spectrum of practitioners, from a father figure for the architectural profession to a young partnership establishing it's first foothold on practice defining territory between art and architecture. Together, these conversations expose a cross-section of definitions for "practice," a word in continual evolution that now includes expanded roles for architects embracing new technologies, responsibilities, territories, and identities. They each investigate a practitioner's narrative and structural relationship to work, as well as the effect of recent economic cycles on a practice. This project began as personal and professional research on the possibilities for a new practice, and as such offers wisdom and insight only gained through practical experience, but in the end these conversations have only strengthened the need for an ongoing inquiry into the state of creative "practice."
