Prakruti Resort

Vadodara, India

YEAR
2003
The resort’s design illustrates how carefully conceived living spaces and landscaping can create a sense of continuity from the front porch to the bottom of the garden. Outdoor spaces play an important role in the overall design of a resort. A cohesive design scheme was achieved by working closely with the resort promoters and landscape designers. The project required complete design and layout of a recreational complex with two restaurants, party halls, gymnasium, discotheque, game parlour, rooms for stay and vast landscaped areas for outdoor events.

Being on the main Ahmedabad-Vadodara route made it important that the resort gave an imposing presence and yet have an earthy sense for visitors to feel at home. In urban settings, site constraints often make provision of large manicured gardens and courtyards a luxury. However, here the elements of contemporary outdoor living, alfresco styled dining area, the swimming pool, colonnaded walkways and foliage are successfully merged.

The resort is layered by way of corridors and the corridors themselves are created to generate a shifting perspective and fragmented views. The perspective and angles of the walkway propel and entice the visitor through the resort, generating a flow of movement to allow a full experience of the resort. Brick was used as a material to give visual texture to the resort and use it as a wrapping element. The abstract in the plan have a definite association with traditional element of brick-clad columns. Along with the verticals levels maintained in the colonnade aesthetics, the addition of a shallow pitched roof ‘grounds’ the structure.
