BRIEF Pracht ist ?
A new salon workshop within a building from 1889, that can be seen as an extension of its existing spatial qualities as well as the design values of this particular period.
CHALLENGES The key focus during the reconstruction was the preservation and appreciation of the original materials. With the consolidation of natural and raw materials an equilibrium was established with the existing construction, without placing the the craftsmanship in the background.
RESULTS Exposed walls are delicately renovated and rather than boring openings into walls to allow for the electrical elements, pipes were mounted externally and were highlighted with the use of copper. All „new“ materials, such as oak timber and black steel, were those that made regular appearances in the era in which the building was conceived.
The people and the craftsmanship are placed within the centre point.
