Prachasongkroa School is one of the oldest schools in Kanchanaburi, Thailand and is centrally located in a small rural area of the province. This modern redesign involved the creation of a new building to house its kindergarten department, replacing an older, unsafe building.
The design concept for the main building was to blend the ideas of practicality with a dreamlike form, evoking a sense of playfulness and allowing the school to stand out in its more serious surroundings. Undulating shapes create movement and flow, creating a colorful escape from the outside world.
The design is based on contrasting ideas - free flowing lines and geometrics, crude, rough surfaces and smooth, glossy ones, and primary colors vs. those found in nature, the ultimate intent to create a space that will enable children to learn through interaction, observation and comparison.
