The miniature theatre is the new home of a travelling theatre group
from the Horse & Bamboo Theatre, Manchester. An audience of 35
people and 3 actors fit into the mobile tent structure. Invoked by the
idea of a kaleidoscope the form of the theatre rotates around an
imaginary axis. Two overlapping skins merge to give an elusive presence
and an unexpected experience of the event. The exterior skin forms a
twisted magic box that veils the arching interior performance space.
The red exterior is a porous fabric that provides limited views of the
internal structure. The aluminium laminate of the interior skin
reflects light behind the outer skin. It is opaque on the inside and
creates a dark interior for the theatre lighting.
