All
works begins with a consideration of the environment: Physical, Historical and Socio-Political.
These conditions form a framework for research that leads to decisions on materials
and process. I aim for the work to be fluid in form, location and authorship. Also the process must be on display, open to chance, collaboration
and environmental conditions. This is a framework sometimes issued as a guide
or a staged environment for actions to unfold within. This can be rendered by sculpture,
photography, video and/or an arrangement of materials. The works are encouraged
to be a game of Telephone1moving between authors and mediums with an undefined and
unattainable end. This uncertainty of
form leads to a use of materials that are ephemeral, unstable and themselves
clearly susceptible to decomposition. The ‘final’ work becomes a McGuffin2a process exposed to the provisions of time.
1 Telephone: A game in which a
message is distorted by being passed around in a whisper from one person to
another. Also called Chinese whispers.2 McGuffin: An object or device in a movie or a book that
serves merely as a trigger for the plot.
