Adamson Associates provided master plan coordination, design support, contract documents and site review services for this large-scale, mixed-used development designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli.
Comprised of several buildings, including residential, office, and retail components, Porta Nuova, Garibaldi is sited on a 17.3 acre plot adjacent to the Garibaldi train station. Prior to the redevelopment, decaying industrial facilities marred the urban fabric, and railyards that had been long abandoned, severed the site. The carefully developed master plan effectively re-knits the cityscape, creating a vibrant urban core with a strong focus on humane pedestrian activity at the base of the buildings. Most importantly, a new public space — the Piazza Circolare — is created, bridging roads and metro lines. The key infrastructures are underground, guaranteeing efficiency of the transit system and respecting the pedestrian-oriented character of the area.
