It has been said that if the bees disappear from the surface of the earth man would have no more than four years to live.Colony Collapse Disorder is afflicting bee colonies around the world. Bees are disappearing at an alarming rate. The proposal is to encourage individuals and communities to keep apiaries in their dwellings, thereby giving bees a safe haven where they can propagate their species. Traditional apiaries are boxy and unsightly, this design serves as an alternative; a more elegantly designed apiary that is not only more attractive for bees, but also for the bee keeper. The apiaries would have a hexagonal shape, a morphology already familiar to the bees. The exterior would be dotted with mini cells attracting bees with bright colors. The apiary is made of 100% arsenic free pressure treated wood. The fibers of the internal structure are comprised of essences of bee balm, hairy vetch, clover, hyssop, basil, thyme, or sage and will allure bees to the generators. The cell geometry allows for a variety of configurations. These can later be separated to force the creation of a new colony. This simple design fix can have a significant impact on our planet.
