Poker Face

YEAR
2010
BUDGET
$0 - 10K
Poker Face Installation - designed and fabricated by 5th-year Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo Architecture students in the Senior Thesis Design Studio "Affective Environments" taught by Eric Nulman. The show was staged as an exhibition of the final 2D work of the studio. Reflecting the ethos of the studio, Poker Face is an installation that presents the individual as a singular entity and as a component of a larger field. The field is composed of three hundred double-sided posters. The posters have two distinct sides: one focused on the individual person and the other on their thesis ideas or proposal. The posters’ thesis content is positioned within the field to clearly articulate each individual’s thesis narrative rather than position each thesis’s relationship to others within the field. Each poster represents a complete or singular idea whose intensity is amplified when seen as part of a series within the overall spatial matrix. Although the current configuration of the field is presented here in a striated manner the reality of the field’s configuration throughout the year has been quite smooth and in constant flux due to shifting alliances and mutual interests.
