This Duplex is located in a quiet and coveted Point Grey neighbourhood of Vancouver BC. Built in the early 1990's the existing unit was in its original state, when the property was acquired by the owners. The renovation of this unit involved converting a two bed+ two bath unit into a three bed + three bath home.
The split level floor plan for the unit was retained, but it was important to establish a visual connection between the rooms on separate levels of the home. The kitchen and dining areas were swapped on the second level giving seamless access to the exterior deck from the dining room. A den on the top floor was converted to a master bedroom and ensuite.
Introducing glass railings and structural glass stringers with floating steps achieved the desired visual connection between rooms, and also allow access to light to the centre of the unit from either side of the narrow floor plan. The complete renovation of this home included installing custom millwork, quartz countertops, engineered hardwood floors, bocci & woud light fixtures, to list a few.
Vertical volumes around the stairs and in the two master bedrooms and the renewed visual connection between spaces extend the perception of spaces beyond a room — rendering a commodious living experience in this urban home.
