PocoLoco is the first venture of the Hospitality Group, Conniesours Dote, headed by a young couple Saurabh Shroff and Sonal Bandarkar.
After an extensive search for a space that worked with their space requirements, locations and most important limited budget, the duo finalized the site previously occupied by The Steak House, located adjacent to Toto’s Garage.
Having visited Spain, and sensing a void within the culinary world of Mumbai, the couple decided upon a Spanish Tapas bar, with the intent of serving simple Spanish fare at a reasonable cost.
The previous eatery utilized its minimal space extremely inefficiently, and as such allowed for a cover of barely 30, with a claustrophobic ambience.
Breaking the existing wall between the kitchen and the restaurant, and freeing up the mezzanine space (which was previously used exclusively for storage), opened up the space in a way that gave the illusion of a much larger space. The location of the open bar (allowing for a free flowing space), articulation of the wall treatments, and placement of ceiling lights, all enhance and accentuate its linearity.
With the site being devoid of any natural light, the design proposal introduces a skylight element within the front part, which is a single storey extension to the building above, thus allowing for a naturally lit glowing ambiance. At night time, the skylight is artificially lit from above, allowing the same setting.
Wood is the primary element used in Tapas bars worldwide, and as such was utilized as the primary element. Its usage, along with warm lighting allows for a, inviting and casual feel.
