PIXEL VILLAS AS THE FUTURE ULTRACOMPACT YOUTH RESIDENCES
This very moment, the pressure on especially the youth housing market is increasing with rapid pace due to the centralisation of educational institutions and workplaces as well as the increasing urbanisation in the society.
A high amount of young students struggle for months to find a home while their study is already well under way. Often they end in a small room in charmless and old concrete buildings or in the smallest room in an unacceptably costly flat.
Right now WE Architecture and Spacefab are working on an innovative project about ultracompact youth residences called Pixel Villas in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. The project consists of up to 50 youth residences in 13 ultracompact two floors villas. In Copenhagen Municipality alone, the ambition is to build 6000 houses for students within a relative short period of time.
BUILDINGS WITHOUT WASTED SPACE
In contrast to other block towers with many floors, the buildings of Pixel Villas are designed as closely connected villas in two floors. This building structure means that you avoid wasted space for both corridors and elevators, while all residents have their own garden. Thereby the same amount of people can live in Pixel Villas as in a soulless block tower - now the space is just used fully.
YOUTH RESIDENCES WITH NO COMPROMISES
All youth villas are flexible and accommodate between one to four youth residences. The ground floor has a smaller area than the first floor in order to create more room for movement between the villas. The kitchen and the living room are placed on the ground floor and the bedroom is placed on the first floor to create more privacy for the individual resident.
Every youth villa has a connected inner courtyard where social gathering may arise. The shared facilities are placed under the elevated terrain, which means that the total ground area is used fully without any compromises concerning quality and space for the students.
ULTRACOMPACT ACCOMODATION UNITS OF HIGH QUALITY
Pixel Villas contribute through ultracompact accommodation units to the solution of the increasing issue concerning young students' ongoing struggle and search for housing. All this happens with no compromises on quality.
CONSTRUCTION EXPECTED TO START IN EARLY 2016.
