White tower
came as an idea of integration into the old port city – a good landmark point
surrounded by small buildings, emphasized by its height, but connected to the
city with white color typical for Greek architecture. The new Piraeus tower presents symbolically modern
lighthouse of the harbor, a pile of containers pulsing on the façade with the calmed
rhythm of a sea wave…
The idea was
presenting this building as a gentle giant covered with a waving white mask. It
doesn’t move physically, but changes its face thanks to lights and shadows. By
daylight it is its structure that dominates and by night the tower is
recognizable by its milky light that shines from boxes on all sides.
